Holy Doomscrolling is a Bible reading app operated by Reset ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use the Holy Doomscrolling mobile application, website, and related services.

The information processed depends on the features you use and the permissions you grant. This policy describes our practices; it does not replace any consent required by law or your device settings.

1. Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account, we may collect your name, email address, authentication provider, profile details you choose to provide, onboarding answers, subscription status, and app settings. Our authentication systems process credentials to sign you in; passwords are not stored in plain text.

Bible reading and saved content

We may process the passages you open, reading history, reading progress, preferences, and interactions with Bible content. If you use features for bookmarks, highlights, notes, reading goals, or reminders, we process the information you save or select to provide those features and sync supported content.

Reading activity, notes, and questions can reveal religious beliefs or other sensitive information. Please consider what you choose to enter, particularly when using an AI feature. Where applicable law requires explicit consent to process sensitive information, we obtain that consent.

AI interactions and support

If you use an AI feature, we process your questions, prompts, relevant passage context, and generated responses. If you contact us, we receive your message, contact information, and any attachments you send.

Device, website, and usage information

We may collect device model, operating system and app version, IP address, app interactions, onboarding progress, crash reports, performance information, installation source, and purchase or subscription events. Our website hosting provider may process request information such as IP addresses, browser information, and access logs to serve and protect the site.

Payments and subscriptions

Apple or the payment provider processes purchases. We do not receive or store your full payment card information. We may receive product identifiers, transaction identifiers, subscription and trial status, and purchase metadata needed to provide paid access and support.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Create, authenticate, and manage your account.
  • Provide Bible reading, save supported preferences and content, and sync reading progress.
  • Personalize supported reading features and respond to AI requests.
  • Deliver reading reminders and other notifications you enable.
  • Manage subscriptions, purchases, trials, and premium access.
  • Provide support and improve reliability, onboarding, and app performance.
  • Understand usage and subscription performance, prevent abuse and fraud, and comply with legal obligations.

3. AI features

Holy Doomscrolling may use third-party AI providers, such as OpenAI, to generate explanations, reflections, summaries, or responses to your questions. When you use these features, the prompt you submit and relevant context needed to respond may be sent to the provider. Context can include a selected Bible passage and information you intentionally include in the conversation.

We disclose third-party AI sharing and obtain permission before sending personal information where required. We do not send your password or full payment card information to AI providers. Avoid including information about other people or sensitive information that is unnecessary for your request.

AI responses may contain errors and are not Scripture, authoritative theological guidance, or professional advice. See our Terms of Service for more about AI-generated content.

4. Sharing and service providers

We use service providers for cloud hosting, storage, authentication, analytics, subscription management, AI processing, and customer support. Depending on the feature, these may include Apple, Google or Firebase for authentication; Mixpanel for analytics; AppsFlyer for attribution; Superwall for subscriptions and paywalls; OpenAI for AI features; and Render for website hosting.

Providers receive information needed for their services and must protect information processed on our behalf consistently with this policy and applicable requirements. App marketplaces and third-party services you use directly also have their own privacy policies.

We may disclose information to comply with law or legal process, protect rights and safety, prevent fraud, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or transfer of business assets subject to applicable protections. We may also share information at your direction or with your consent.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not sell your private notes, reading history, or AI conversations.

5. Analytics and attribution

Analytics and attribution tools help us understand how people discover and use Holy Doomscrolling, identify technical issues, improve onboarding, and evaluate subscription flows. Events may include feature interactions, installation source, purchase events, device information, and general usage patterns.

You can manage available tracking permissions through your device settings, including Apple's App Tracking Transparency controls where applicable. We request permission where required before tracking. This website does not embed advertising pixels or third-party analytics scripts.

6. Notifications and permissions

With your permission, Holy Doomscrolling may send reading reminders, progress updates, and other app notifications. You can change notification permissions in your device settings. Where the app offers reminder preferences, you can also adjust them there.

7. Storage, security, and retention

Information may be stored on your device and on cloud infrastructure. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, including encrypted connections to our backend, to protect information. No transmission or storage method can guarantee absolute security.

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain your account, meet legal and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and protect security. Retention depends on the information, the purpose for collecting it, and applicable requirements.

When you request account deletion, we delete or de-identify associated personal information unless retention is required or permitted for a specific legal, security, fraud-prevention, or accounting purpose. Backup copies may remain until they are overwritten in the ordinary course.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent; or complain to a privacy regulator. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

You can manage available app settings and device permissions. To request account deletion or exercise a privacy right, email hello@tryresetapp.com with "Holy Doomscrolling privacy request" in the subject. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. Deleting the app alone does not necessarily delete cloud account data or cancel a subscription.

9. Children's privacy

Holy Doomscrolling is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Additional age or parental-consent requirements may apply where you live.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact hello@tryresetapp.com so we can investigate and take appropriate steps to delete it.

10. International users

Holy Doomscrolling is operated from the United States. Your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our providers operate. Privacy laws may differ from those in your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers and rely on applicable legal grounds for processing.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services or practices change. We will update the date above and provide additional notice of material changes where required. If a change requires your consent, we will request it; continuing to use the service does not substitute for that consent.
